Evolving Through Adversity: How I Embraced Change During the Pandemic

Riding the rollercoaster of life asks a lot of us, but if we learn to roll with the punches, we can find inner peace

The tides of life are constantly shifting.

As much as we like to stay in our comfort zone, the winds of change are always pushing us in all different directions...

And there’s no better example of this than the past two years. The pandemic shook the world, businesses closed down, and everything came to a halt.

But funnily enough, times like these can often be the most transformative for us.

Today, I want to share the story of how I embraced change and growth over the course of the pandemic, and how it brought me the success I have today.

It was one of the hardest lessons I ever had to learn, and it taught that in tough times, you honor yourself and your dreams by asking yourself: how can I evolve through this?

Adapting Through Quarantine

When the country shut down in 2020, restaurants, gyms, and most businesses had to close their doors. Yoga studios were no different.

That meant indoor sessions were far less frequent.

Like so many other people, I had to find another way to make things work. In a time of such unprecedented stress, I knew people needed yoga now more than ever.

I was forced to evolve.

So, I started offering outside yoga for anyone who didn’t feel safe indoors. For those that wanted to stay home, I led online sessions on zoom. And whenever I saw private clients, I always wore a mask and followed the recommended safety guidelines.

As more and more time passed, there were no signs of things going back to normal any time soon, so I started building out my very own yoga studio in my garage.

Yes! In my GARAGE.

I sank thousands of dollars into it over the course of a year so I could host private classes at my home. But unfortunately, the Homeowner’s Association (uughhh!) stepped in and told me I had to stop.

It definitely took some time to adjust to this new environment, and it wasn’t easy, but it was worth every second.

I may not have known it at the time, but these changes were the beginning of an entirely new chapter for my business — one that I never could’ve guessed would be so successful.

Coming Out the Other Side

Fast forward to now, I have about thirty-five private sessions a week and hold four group classes in the lobby of my husband’s wellness center.

It was a tough journey, but once I came out on the other side, I knew there was still so much potential there. I wanted to continue to embrace change and make the most out of the time I had.

So, I asked myself, how could I continue to work smarter, not harder?

My first idea was to offer cold juices to all my clients after class, but that seemed a little too much like working harder.

So, I thought I’d create my own little merchandise store! I made yoga-themed t-shirts, tank tops, hats, sweaters, and even masks to sell.

Now, everybody LOVES them! You can find them on the shop page of my website or at any of my classes.

I couldn’t believe how quickly the idea took off. It brought me so much joy to see my clients enjoy their new clothes.

Then I thought, “What if I designed candles?” If my clothing line was so popular, I bet people would love specialty candles to add to their homes or offices.

So, I got in touch with a local company to white label candles and submitted my designs. Since then, they’ve been a huge hit!

Need some serenity in your life? You can find my line of candles on my online store.

They’re also the perfect holiday gift for that friend or family member that needs some extra inner peace and relaxation.

Learning to Embrace Change

Looking back, if I hadn’t made an effort to adapt to the way the world was changing, none of this probably would’ve happened.

It took plenty of risks and a leap of faith or two, but if I had allowed myself to stay stagnant, I wouldn’t have grown from the experience.

Currently, I’m excited to be developing new projects and ideas for my clients. I’m doing my best to keep the momentum going, working on being better and more productive every day.

In this busy world, you can always count on there being some level of stress. But if you learn to “go with the flow,” you can use the winds of change to your advantage and come out better than before.

So, what are some ways you can embrace change in the coming months? Are you putting up barriers of resistance in certain areas of your life?

Check in with yourself and see if there’s any way you can evolve to honor your goals and dreams.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the hustle and bustle. But sometimes, all you need is a little quality time with yourself to make a breakthrough that can snowball into something amazing!
